It happened! I ordered my Sprinter and it will be in my possession by the end of the year. I'm thrilled and wanted to share the options I chose and why.
I plan on eventually living full-time in my Sprinter, so as you can imagine I had a lot of requirements. I will outline my essentials below:
I wanted to be able to live near both of my daughters who reside on opposite ends of the San Francisco Bay Area. The only way to do that was to have a mobile home. One daughter only has street parking, so I wanted to make sure I could legally park on her street without getting either of us in trouble, which is why I chose the 144" wheelbase.
The high roof is 6'2" and I'm 6 feet tall. If I'm living in a tiny house, I at least want to stand up straight, right?
The four-wheel drive is so if I'm traveling in snow, I don't have to get out in the cold and put chains on my house.
Driver efficiency package
The only thing that really matters that much to me in this package is the cruise control. Have you ever had a car without cruise control? Every time you drive more than half an hour on the freeway you end up cursing your car and yourself for your shortsightedness. I'm too old to not have cruise control and I don't care who knows it.
Rear window package
This is just so I don't have to put the back windows in myself. I will still be installing the side windows myself. I found out that one of my regular vendors sells windows that match and fit the Sprinter perfectly.
cold weather package
The important item for me is the heater booster- it heats up the whole van, instead of just the cab.
Active Safety package w/ active parking assist
This is the package I'm most excited about. I will be traveling alone (hence "Solo") which make these features so valuable.
The Collision Prevention Assist automatically brakes when the Sprinter gets close to another vehicle. Light and Rain Sensor automatically turns on and off windshield wipers and headlights depending on the weather. Lane Keeping Assist is awesome for long drives alone, because if it senses you drifting out of your lane, the steering wheel vibrates to give you a little warning. High Beam Assist automatically adjusts the brightness when it senses another car, which is more for other drivers than me. If only it could automatically adjust other cars' high beams! The Parking Aid System allows the Sprinter to parallel park itself! Take all my money Mercedes Benz, I never want to parallel park another car again!
options and accessories
The Two Stage Opening Sliding Door is a great choice for anyone planning on building out the inside of a Sprinter, because it allows you the flexibility to utilize more wall space. I am considering using the extra wall space for my kitchenette.
Downhill Speed Regulation helps keep the Sprinter in cruise control when going downhill.
I ordered the Roof Rails to be able to attach Solar Cells. The Continental Tires are bigger and good for driving in mud and snow. The Suspension I chose is heavier for four-wheel drive stability.
please Let me know in the comments if I'm missing anything!
