how it works
A composting toilet is able to separate waste into liquids and solids. The urine is deposited into one container and the poop is deposited into the other. Instead of flushing, you crank a handle which mixes your poop into any existing composting material. The oxygen and heat is evenly distributed, killing anaerobic bacteria (what causes poop to smell). You are left with fertilizer.
my composting toilet journey
One of the first things I thought about when considering full time van life was the bathroom situation. Pretty early on in my research I came across the Nature's Head composting toilet. It seemed to meet all my needs and more! I chose a Nature's Head toilet because they manufacture their products in the USA and have a 5 year warranty.
I will outline the reasons I went with a composting toilet below.
